Leger vs. Gormiti: The Lords of Nature (Wii)

They said it was a hidden gem.

Thus, I bought the game and played it through just to see if some truth in this claim could be found.

It could, but not to an extent of me going batshit crazy claiming everyone needs to open up their eyes and get hold of a copy.

No.

Rather, it turned out to be one of these extremely laid back brawlers aimed at kids.

See, Gormiti is apparently a thing; Small figures to collect, trading cards to play with and some different tv-series.

A hit, they say. In Italy and Brazil. I would not now, I never heard of Gormiti before a couple of days before today.

A brawler, then.

Four kids and some lizard thing acting as the funny character. The kids transform into Lords of Nature, each one with a specific attribute (fire, wind, earth and water), when stepping on a portal taking them to another world.

Something evil in this other world want to take control of everything, even opening up a portal back to earth and take control of earth aswell.

We have to stop him, yes... we do.

And this we do by traversing through environments connected to the different elements, beating up bad red guys and shifting between the characters to be able to press a button and do some unique things at certain points on the stages.

Like, by controlling earth being able to smash some rocks or taking a dive in the water if controlling water.

Also, spread all over the stages are crystals in different colours. By picking up the crystals of the same colour as the element you currently are controlling you get 500 points while the other colours only render 100.

If you would happen to die you lose some points.

I am not even sure if losing all the points will result in a Game Over, but it does not really matter since difficulty never is a thing but going along for the ride very well is.

The battle system is never more complicated than hitting the shit out of enemies, throwing projectiles or jumping and decide to smash the ground when coming back down.

To be honest, you can in most cases run past the enemies, push whatever button needs to be pushed to open whatever and continue on throughout the level, but bosses always have to be fought.

Each stage contains eight puzzle pieces, eight blue eggs and one golden egg.

The puzzle pieces give access to a simple eight piece jigsaw puzzle which if put together gives access to some artwork.

The blue eggs and the golden egg leads to another kind of puzzle where you push eight pieces around a nine square grid until it reveals a picture of a character.

Ridicilously simple stuff, no need to think to do it. Just do it. Now.

It would be more than easy to argue that Gormiti: The Lords of Nature is quite shit, but I can not say that it is.

Everything related to the presentation seems really well put together. The graphics are clean and colourful with lots of details, the animated cutscenes has a nice cartoony look and the game has a truly nice flow which makes it pleasant to play.

What drags it down is the repetetiveness of it all, with few types of enemies, few moves to use in combat, non interactive environments besides some simple plattforming and the fact that once you have beaten the very first stage you have pretty much seen most of what the game has to offer.

Almost, since the things to use with the elements are introduced one by one along the way.

Gormiti is a short game with only eighteen regular stages to beat spread across five different environments.

Another four stages are gauntlets, where all that matters is killing the waves of enemies. You will get a golden egg if certain conditions are met, but I have not really bothered since these stages seems to go on forever and when losing all health you get thrown back out to the world map.

Dare I say that the gauntlets can be... difficult?

Well, yes... but, no, not really.

Maybe.

I do not know

What I do know is that I never felt bored while playing through the game. I did so all by myself, but a friend can join the brawling for some non split screen action.

It was a pleasant brain dead journey, completely (almost) void of challenge.

That will do, sometimes.

This time.

Yes.
